What Listing Photos Don't Tell You About a Culver City Home
A Great Photo and a Great Home Aren't Always the Same Thing
I've had buyers fall in love with a listing online, then walk through the actual house and feel something completely different. Photos are a tool, not the truth. Here's what they routinely leave out.
Scale Gets Distorted
Wide-angle lenses make rooms look bigger than they are. That "spacious" primary bedroom in the photos might barely fit a queen bed and a dresser. Always check the floor plan and actual square footage, not just the visual impression.
Light Changes Throughout the Day
Listing photos are shot at the best possible hour, usually with every light on and curtains styled just right. A home that looks bright and airy online can feel dim by 4 p.m. if it doesn't get real afternoon light. Worth a second visit at a different time of day if you're serious.
Noise Doesn't Show Up in a Picture
A home near Overland or Sepulveda might look peaceful in photos but sit right on a busier traffic corridor. Street noise, nearby construction, train sounds near the Expo Line, none of that comes through a lens.
Smell, Condition, and the Small Stuff
Photos can hide a lot: musty smells, worn flooring up close, hairline cracks, an HVAC system on its last leg. Professional staging and good lighting can make an older system or a tired finish look perfectly fine in a photo.
Neighborhood Feel Doesn't Translate
A photo shows a house. It doesn't show what it's like to walk out the front door, whether neighbors wave, whether the block is quiet at night, or how far the nearest coffee shop actually is. That's the texture that makes Culver City neighborhoods so different from each other, and it's something you can only get by being there.
Why an In-Person Walkthrough Still Matters
In a market like Culver City's, where Culver Crest, Downtown, and Carlson Park can feel completely different a few blocks apart, photos are a starting point, not a decision-making tool. A walkthrough tells you what the listing can't.
If you're house hunting in Culver City and want someone to walk a property with a critical eye, I'm happy to help you look past the photos. Let’s talk!
